Consistent Performance with Early Optimism Paula Esperanza showed a promising start with a steady split pace of 10:40 min/mile in the first mile, indicating a prepared and focused beginning. Notably, she maintained a top 10 finish in her division for the first mile, placing 10th among the F55-59 competitors. Her overall transition saw her placing 628th, showcasing a competitive spirit initially. As the race progressed, her pace understandably adjusted, moving from a second-mile pace of 11:45 min/mile to a closing pace of 12:48 min/mile at mile six. Throughout the 10K event at the UTHealth Houston Marathon & 10K, Paula finished with an overall time of 1:15:29 and an average pace of 12:10 min/mile. Although her placement adjusted through the race, she retained her vigor, finishing 31st in her division and 526th in the gender category among 2010 participants. Moving forward, focusing on sustaining the early pace in later stages can be beneficial for future races.
