He began with a strong start, clocking an 8:43 min/mile for the first mile and showing consistent improvement with mile splits of 8:30 and 8:29 by the third mile. His split times indicate that Brian placed prominently among competitors early in the race, standing 144th in his division initially. As the race progressed, Brian experienced a deceleration, especially notable from mile six onwards where his split pace slowed to 9:37 min/mile.
