Consistent Acceleration and Strong Division Finish Vaniah Barrera showcased an impressive performance in the 2025 UTHealth Houston Half Marathon. Starting with an 8:03 min/mile pace in the first mile, she gradually increased her speed, consistently improving her split times throughout the race. By mile 5, she locked into a pace under 7:35 min/mile and maintained this strategy, ultimately leading to a superb finish. The most notable acceleration was seen between miles 11 and 12, where her split dropped to an impressive 6:57 min/mile. Barrera's overall time was 1:37:37, achieving a pace of 7:27 min/mile. Among fellow participants, she secured the 9th place in her age division (F20-24), which is commendable considering the field of 4,907 runners. Her ability to gradually accelerate throughout the event attests to her strong pacing strategy and stamina. For future races, focusing on initial speed could bring even more competitive results.
