Strong Finish with Steady Improvement Maria Pamela Ortiz participated in the 2025 UTHealth Houston Half Marathon, representing the Houston Colosseum Runners. She demonstrated a stable performance with an overall finish time of 2:55:14, averaging a pace of 13:22 min/mile over the 13.1-mile distance. Her initial miles were consistent, displaying incremental improvements from 12:46 min/mile to 12:19 min/mile by the third mile. Maintaining a steady pace through most of the race, she encountered a slowing trend from mile 7 to mile 11. Impressively, even as the pace decreased in some later miles, she managed a strong push in the final mile, clocking a 12:48 min/mile split. This reflects consistent race strategy and pacing control. Compared to her previous half marathon result of 3:07:42, Maria achieved noticeable improvements in both her overall time and placing in her division. Focusing on maintaining a consistent pace in later miles may lead to even better outcomes in future races. Great job!
