Consistent Mid-Race Acceleration Francisco Zavala displayed impressive pacing in the 2025 UTHealth Houston Half Marathon with a consistent performance across 13.1 miles, finishing with a time of 1:38:23. Starting with an initial pace of 8:04 min/mile, pace improved quickly, particularly in the early stages, with a significant drop to 7:22 min/mile by mile 4. This acceleration positively impacted his overall placement, moving from 548thplace to around 330th by the end, within his division and gender categories as well. Given the steady pace of approximately 7:30 min/mile from mile 5 onward, Zavala demonstrated commendable endurance, especially given his finish as 292nd in the male category out of 4907 participants. While there was a slight deceleration in the last mile compared to his fastest miles, his strong mid-race improvements were key contributors to his overall performance. Continuing to focus on maintaining the early to mid-race pace into later miles will further enhance results.
