Impressive Performance with Sustained Speed and Significant Improvement Gage McFarlane, a 17-year-old from South Jordan, UT, competed in the 2025 Deseret News Marathon 5K event. He demonstrated a commendable performance, finishing with a total time of 16:49 and an average pace of 5:25 min/mile over the 3.1-mile distance. Notably, Gage improved his performance from a previous 5K, shaving exactly one minute off his time from the 2024 event, where he ran 17:49 with a 5:44 min/mile pace. Gage's splits painted a picture of strategic pacing. He started strong with an initial mile at a pace of 5:38 min/mile, then accelerated in the second mile with his fastest split at 5:06 min/mile. Throughout the race, Gage managed to maintain a solid placement, finishing 15th in the M15-18 division out of 1225 participants. Going forward, maintaining a consistent pace closer to his second split could further enhance his overall performance.
