A Masterful Pacing Exhibition Ryan Merriman, at age 40 from West Jordan, UT, delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 Deseret News Half Marathon. Covering the 13.1 miles in 1:07:40, Ryan maintained a consistent and formidable average pace of 5:09 min/mile. His splits reveal a strong start, with the first mile at 5:22 and improving considerably by mile 2 to 4:58, showcasing his strategic acceleration. Ryan demonstrated remarkable consistency across his splits, with the majority ranging between 5:01 and 5:09 min/mile. Ryan excelled in the Masters Division, consistently holding the 1st position. He briefly dropped to 8th place overall after mile 4 but swiftly reclaimed 5th by mile 9. Although he ended the race 8th overall, his pacing integrity remained impressive. Notably, his 7th and 10th-mile splits were his fastest, clocking in at 4:51 and 5:07, respectively. Maintaining this level of performance will continue to bring commendable results in future races.
