Consistent 8:03 Pace, Big Late Surge, Top-6% Overall Marathon: 3:31:01 (8:03/mi). 165th of 2,678 overall (~6.2%). Splits mostly 7:54-8:15; slowest was mile 20 at 8:38. Fastest miles came late: 7:24 (mile 25) and 7:02 (mile 26). Gained positions throughout: from 307th at mile 2 to 165th at the finish (+142), including +58 from mile 21 (223rd) to the end. Only three miles were over 8:20 (9, 13, 20). Coaching notes: Pace control was strong; to tighten mid-race variability, aim to cap drift to about +15s over goal pace—miles 9 (8:25), 13 (8:33), and 20 (8:38) were the outliers. Given the closing speed, incorporate marathon-pace blocks that finish faster (e.g., 6-8 mi at marathon pace, then 2-3 mi quicker) to convert the finish into earlier gains around miles 21-24.
