The REVEL Race Series is thrilled to announce that the inaugural REVEL Canyon City Marathon & Half will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014, in Azusa, CA. Organized by the creators of the REVEL Big Cottonwood Marathon & Half and REVEL Rockies Marathon & Half, REVEL Canyon City promises to be one of the premier running courses in the West.
The REVEL Race Series specializes in events that revolve around two principal dynamics: Fast & Beautiful. The REVEL Canyon City course epitomizes these dynamics. This new race features the best of the San Gabriel Mountains, including breathtaking views of the San Gabriel Valley, beautiful Azusa Canyon, mountain reservoirs, and the San Gabriel River. To top it all off, the whole course is mostly downhill on a paved highway and the marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifying race.
The full marathon begins roughly twenty-four miles north of downtown Azusa up Highway 39 near the Crystal Lake Cafe, and the half marathon begins about 11 miles up the canyon near the San Gabriel River West Fork. Both races proceed south down Highway 39 to Foothill Boulevard in the heart of Azusa, and then run east through the town to finish on Alosta Avenue. The full marathon drops about 5,100 vertical feet and the half marathon drops about 900. Both courses feature a downhill grade for the majority of the race.
The REVEL Race Series is intent on ensuring that all REVEL events have a positive impact on local communities. Revel events help communities grow by offering a four-fold value proposition including (1) Economic Benefits, (2) Community Branding, (3) Health and Fitness Promotion, and (4) Charitable Giving. The REVEL Canyon City Marathon & Half will be a valuable partner to the local community, and a portion of each participant's entry fee will be donated to City of Azusa recreation programs. Los Angeles has an active and growing running community, and the REVEL organizers are hopeful that the enthusiastic participant base in the area will lead to a large and successful race this November.
